Speed Shift EPP expresses a preference between responsiveness and energy saving on supported Intel systems. It is not a direct clock-speed command, and one value is not ideal for every workload.
How EPP Works
Lower values generally favor performance response while higher values favor efficiency. The processor still considers load, thermal limits, power limits and operating-system policy.
AC and Battery Profiles
A responsive plugged-in profile and a more efficient battery profile can be useful. Test fan noise, battery drain and real application performance rather than choosing a number only because it is popular online.
Windows Power Modes
Windows and vendor software can also influence performance preference. Conflicting utilities may rewrite EPP or create behavior that changes after sleep or reboot.
Verify Behavior
Watch effective clock, package power and task responsiveness. A low EPP value may add heat with no visible benefit during light work.
